Saturn in Sagittarius: The Explorer

Sagittarius reminds us to have perspective, to consider the meaning of life. While everyone else is seeing the trees and not the forest, admiring the short term and not the wider view, Sagittarius shows up to set us straight with their frank philosophical talk and big-picture thinking. Life is like a highway, says Sagittarius! Vroom, let's go!

Sagittarius needs room to roam, travel, explore. They are naturally optimistic and will cheer you on like no other. Sagittarius sees your potential.

When your Saturn is in Sagittarius, however, you do not see the big picture and the road ahead. Instead, you see what's right in front of your face, the details, the short term, life as we know it rather than how it could be.

One is not better than the other, big picture versus small picture. We need both. We need different things at different times in life, but you, Saturn in Sagittarius, have moments of such puny or narrow vision that some might even mistake you for a Virgo! (Just teasing! I love my Virgos.) Your lack of faith or belief in people, and in the world around you, will sadden not only your dearest friends but yourself as well. You must learn to look up!

When Saturn is in Sagittarius, it adds a sand-bag to the usual Sagittarian balloon-like personality. Sagittarius is ruled by lucky abundant Jupiter, and Jupiter is happy and expansive, fun and lively. When Saturn is in this sign, however, it's not just gloom that occasionally results but downright despair, and it takes that beautiful Sagittarius optimism and stomps on it.

You must learn to temper your pessimism with sweet vision, to soften your realism with belief in magic and that good things happen and good people exist. Even though life is not a dream, it's not always a nightmare either.

Sagittarius is often accused of being excessive or indulgent with food and drink and good times, and Saturn in Sagittarius can go to the opposite extreme: self-denial. Your lust for life is set too low. No adventure, no open road.

Saturn in Sagittarius hides the truth instead of telling it. The truth is that the world is good and bad, heavy and light, physical and spiritual. But Saturn in Sagittarius will err on the side of somber sobriety until they learn to tell a different story and become that buoyant balloon.
